Tavira’s Vila Galé Albacora Eco-Hotel will pay tribute to its heritage this weekend (April 21-23) with the fourth ‘Almadrava Tuna Festival’.

During the festival, there will be a variety of activities, including workshops, tours, photography exhibitions, film screenings and culinary experiences – all related to tuna.

Highlights include the buffet dinner ‘Almadrava’ on Saturday (April 22), and a lunch and gastronomic demonstration focusing on traditional Algarve dishes on Sunday (April 23).

Cost is €19 per person for lunch and €25 for dinner, drinks included.

The event is held annually to celebrate the history of the site which used to be a former tuna fishing community (Arraial Ferreira Neto) beside Ria Formosa, now a protected natural park.

The old fishermen houses were converted into bedrooms and the hotel has preserved the chapel and the old school as well as created a museum dedicated to the art of tuna fishing.
