The countdown has started for The Portugal Masters, which will take place from September 20 to 24 at the Dom Pedro Golf Victoria Course in Vilamoura, and Golf for Greys is now recruiting volunteers to make the event its usual success.

With the event moving forward in the European Tour Calendar, the golfers’ association anticipates it attracting a large number of top players who wish to improve their Race to Dubai rankings. The field has now been increased to 156 players and these will include current champion Padraig Harrington as well as the 2015 winner Andy Sullivan.

Golf for Greys began recruiting volunteers for European Tour events in 2005, when Eddie Pilkington and the late John Hawker, founders of Golf for Greys, contacted their members to help. This event was the WGC World Cup which took place at the newly-opened Vilamoura Victoria course.

“When The Portugal Masters was inaugurated in 2007, Golf for Greys again provided the volunteer force and has done so ever since. Our number is now augmented by volunteers from all over Europe, many of who fly in specially to help,” said a spokesperson for Golf for Greys.

Over 300 people have already signed up for The Portugal Masters 2017, but vacancies still exist in all areas including board carrying, walking scoring and marshalling.

The benefits for helping at the event for four days are a uniform designed by Nike, which comprises two golf shirts, golf top and hat, daily refreshment/merchandising vouchers and guest tickets. The package is completed with a complimentary round of golf at your choice of Dom Pedro Golf’s Vilamoura venues. If you have two days to spare, and these must be Thursday and Friday, a reduced benefits package is available.
