Algarve-based company Wine Emotions is hosting its annual ‘Wine, Food & Art Market’ next Saturday afternoon (December 10).

Taking place at the company’s showroom in Mexilhoeira da Carregação, the event will feature dozens of stalls manned by small wine and food brands.

This is the crux of Wine Emotions' ‘secret’. They promote small producers whose craft wines “cannot be found on the shelves of supermarkets”, João Marques, who runs the company with business partner Rafael Cavaco, told Barlavento newspaper.

And with Christmas just around the corner, these wines might just make the perfect Christmas present.

“Visitors can taste the wines before they buy them, so they known exactly what gifts they’ll be giving,” said Marques, who has worked as a Sommelier with Gordon Ramsay at Claridges in London.

Novelties this year include a series of showcooking events to be held at the showroom's new kitchen as well as a play area for children with bouncy castles.

There will also be a wine-themed exhibition by artists Virgílio Raposo and Luísa Aleixo, while musical entertainment will be provided by saxophonist Martin the Flying Dutchman and DJ Vasco Dantas.

As in previous years, there will be a charitable side to the event. The 30-plus wine producers taking part will auction off a bottle of their wine, with proceeds going to the ‘Amigos do Canil de Portimão’ animal association.

Launched eight years ago, Wine Emotions offers a variety of wine-related services catering mostly to restaurants. The company has had stores and showrooms in Portimão and Lagoa.

Its latest showroom is in the São Pedro urbanisation, which was once a quarry, and features a main hall, the showroom, offices, a wine tasting and training room, a warehouse and now a brand new kitchen.

Tickets for the ‘Wine, Food & Art Market’ cost €10, which can be set against any eventual purchase of wine. Doors open at 2pm and close at 7pm.
